Concept and Direction
Vision, Targets, Strategic Plans, and Strategies for the Development of Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University
 
Countries around the world, including Thailand, are currently changing and developing to achieve global competitiveness and to become knowledge-based societies in order to compete economically, politically, socially, scientifically, technologically, and educationally. Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University (SSRU) is regarded as a fundamental source of wisdom, which will guide the country in the right direction. Therefore, it is inevitably necessary for SSRU to develop and improve the education and teaching systems to cope with the rapid and harsh changes. The first step has been to adopt a good governance principle and to implement proactive strategies to ensure quality educational management; to meet social requirements; and to compete efficiently with other local and international universities.
 
Our mission is to produce high quality graduates; to create and develop knowledge and innovation; to provide academic services, which serve society; to preserve art and cultural heritage; and to promote the teaching professionalism. SSRU also takes a major role in responding to, guiding, and warning communities and society, as well as assisting in solving their problems. It is a source of wisdom and spirit for society. To perform efficiently and successfully its responsibilities in accordance with the specified roles and duties, it is necessary for SSRU to have freedom and flexibility in carrying out academic, budget, and resources management, also in creating and searching for new knowledge and truth to develop innovations and academic advances for communities, the society, and the country to be able to compete with other countries. Meanwhile, accountability to society and the country through public and government supervision and monitoring is also emphasized.
 
 
To efficiently administer the University, it requires unity of policy; good governance; transparency; participation and collaboration of SSRU management team, all faculty members, and personnel of every level from all departments; and systematic empowerment in order to lead and drive all parts of the University to achieve its targets and objectives. We focus on mobilization of resources, creation of partnerships, and participation from government and private sectors, alumni, local organizations, communities, and local people.
 
 
University Development Policies
 
The aforementioned problems and weaknesses have triggered the move towards reform. Targets and directions have been determined to increase its strengths to become a leading quality university for all, that will provide assistance to communities and the society, as well as to compete with other international universities. The policies and targets for SSRU development are as follows:
 
1. To produce high quality graduates to satisfy communities’ and society’s needs; to uplift the living standard and quality of life of people in communities and localities to become self-reliant;
 
2. To promote the use of basic, applied, and policy research processes which are practical to improve the quality of life in communities and this includes laying foundations for development, and creating innovations and inventions from local Thai wisdom adding value to the University, communities, and the society;
 
3. To be a mechanism, which drives, develop, and guide communities, localities, and the society to become knowledge-based, stronger, sustainably self-reliant, and efficiently competitive with other countries;
 
4. To implement an efficient management system, strategic administration, and good governance, which promote quality, flexibility, freedom in performing academic activities, efficiency, effectiveness, transparency, accountability, and monitoring under the supervision of the University Council. This depends on the need and necessity to develop students, lecturers, personnels, communities, local people, and the society in general;
 
5. To be the service center which disseminates information about art and cultural heritage in Rattanakosin period, and to make local Thai wisdom universally recognized;
 
6. To upgrade the quality and standard of lecturers, government officials, and other related staff to be more efficient and competent in the knowledge-based society by promoting and supporting them in terms of position, profession, and welfare which are appropriate for their knowledge and proficiency;
 
7. To improve the standard for mobilizing funds and income to become a professional quality university-business incubator (UBI); and
 
8. To encourage proactive public relations and marketing management by preparing effective marketing and public relations plans; and disseminating SSRU’s academic achievements and researches with an aim to promote its good image and academic reputation among students, entrepreneurs, communities, and the society .
 
 
Goals
 
We have specified the following targets for in order to develop ourselves in becoming a leading quality university for all, an international university, and a university under supervision.
 
 
Qualitative Management Reform
 
-To enhance a systematic and efficient empowerment to all levels-To improve operational processes to be more flexible, rapid, efficient and effective
-To promote accountability, monitoring, and transparency in financial and budget management
-To encourage proactive strategic management among related faculties, centers, and offices
-To stress the importance of works by considering their benefits, efficiency, and effectiveness
-To utilize information technology system and modern communication in order to become an e-university management
-To focus on professional management in order to be a learning organization
-To promote the management system, emphasizing good governance, transparency and justice; and allows monitoring and public participation
-To provide all-inclusive welfare and security services which cover physical health, safety, and facilities
-To encourage students to give importance to their potential development, physical and mental health, academic and social activities, ethics and morality, language and communication skills, and sufficient technological knowledge
-To efficiently allocate and mobilize resources and assets, as well as to add value by generating income from such resources and assets
 
Quality Education
 
-To provide the student-driven education, which covers various fields of study, and still maintains SSRU’s remarkable uniqueness;
 
-To focus the strategic-driven education by promoting the fields we have expertise in while complying with the government’s strategies in order to push the country forward to be a knowledge-based society and economy;
 
-To link and integrate with researches, academic services, and student activitiesby relying on external cooperation, for example, collaboration with entrepreneurs in establishing a cooperative education, and cooperation with local and international universities; and
 
-To develop and improve the quality and standard of SSRU’s: lecturers, government officials, and related staff.
 
Research and Knowledge in Response to Society’s Requirements
 
-To increase the number of researchers and research to develop knowledge which can be applied to business and meet society’s requirements;
 
-To improve research in compliance with national strategies and the present social conditions; and
 
-To link research to teaching, public services, and student activities, as well as external network, i.e. communities, business enterprises, and local and overseas educational institutions.
 
Quality Academic Services in Response to Communities’ Requirements
 
-To be a source of knowledge and wisdom for people in the communities;-To participate in developing innovations in communities by providing academic services;
-To sufficiently and sustainably develop and improve the quality of life of people in communities and society; and
-To link teaching activities with student development activities by collaborating with other local and foreign educational institutions to provide academic services to communities.
 
Preservation of Art and Cultural Heritage toward International Forum
 
-To preserve art and culture by integrating them with teaching, researches, student activities, and academic services;-To be the service center which provides information about art and Thai cultural heritage in Rattanakosin Period ; and
-To disseminate, develop, and upgrade the standard of local Thai wisdom, arts, and culture toward international forum.
